JOHNSON CITY – Pet owners now have a public way to commemorate their furry or feathered companions, or even their human friends, while also supporting the animal shelter.
The Tribute Society allows people to remember their family members with a commemorative brick or tile.
The bricks, which can be engraved to honor or commemorate a loved one – pet or person – will be engraved with durable, weather-resistant laser technology.
The bricks will pave a memorial garden walkway that will be built this summer at the Washington County / Johnson City Animal Shelter.
“We have about 15 or 20 bricks that have been purchased and we hope to have them burned within a few weeks,” said Tammy Davis, director of the shelter.
The commemorative tiles are imprinted with the color photograph and the name of a pet and are permanently installed inside the shelter on a tribute wall.
“This is a way to raise funds for the shelter and will serve as a lasting tribute to the love and bond between the animals and their families,” said Davis.
The tiles are placed in a front hallway where visitors can see them.
“We had been to other shelters that had memorial gardens with the engraved brick. We thought it was a great way to remember a pet or even someone who loves animals. We want to create a beautiful garden and walk feature for people to remember their pets, ”said Davis.
There is a walkway grid so that people who buy a brick can choose where it is located. The brick path is already installed and the engraver will not have to climb them to do his job.
“We want it to be a nice, serene neighborhood,” Davis said.
Memorial bricks cost $ 150 and wall tiles are $ 250.
