Paws 4 Thought Helps Save Animals In Need – NBC 7 San Diego

The black dog waddled on the patio and dropped onto the concrete. The 15 foot walk exhausted the poor dog.

“I called her ‘Momo’,” smiles Penny DeFrance.

The Spring Valley woman is the type of foster parent every animal rescues want.

“It just gives me personal joy,” DeFrance said as she held Momo in her lap.

San Diego-based Paws 4 Thought Animal Rescue has found Momo wandering the streets of Tijuana.

“One of the locals was feeding her and then she just started to grow,” DeFrance said while holding Momo’s belly. “She’s a pregnant mom. She was in the street. As you can see, I was not getting enough food.

Hence Momo’s slow motion to the patio.

Momo and her future puppies were rescued by Paws 4 Thought. As well as three other puppies in the care of DeFrance. However, Animal Rescue does not have animal resource officers like the larger humanitarian companies. It doesn’t have large facilities or a budget of any size.

“Everything is run strictly by volunteers and in our own personal home,” DeFrance said. “Everything is based on foster families where they can place him. So if they don’t have people available to host, there’s not much they can do. “

The non-profit organization collects donations and grants to pay veterinary bills while the animals are in foster care. Sometimes these bills are quite high. Momo is a few days away from giving birth and will eventually need to have her tail amputated.

DeFrance said Paws 4 Thought even saves animals before they are euthanized at other shelters. It gives them another chance at happiness.

“All of this for me is beyond words,” DeFrance sighed. “Animals are often better than humans. “

Paws 4 Thought, which is one of the partners of Clear the Shelters, is celebrating its fifth anniversary this weekend.
