Huntsville Animal Shelter Hosts Thanksgiving Meal For Dogs

HUNTSVILLE, Ark. (KNWA / KFTA) – Volunteers prepared a pet-safe Thanksgiving dinner at the Paws and Claws Animal Shelter in Huntsville on November 23.

Animal Care Manager Mallory Harlan said the event was a great opportunity to increase awareness of animals in the community.

She hopes this will encourage more families to help find homes for pets forever.

“We really hope to place most of them with host families for at least this week. It’s important that even if you can’t adopt, you can do so for even one night or a weekend, ”said Harlan. “They sleep better and it really helps them become more adoptable pets in the long run.”

Mason Pittman, 9, and Dylan Pittman, 5, attended the event.

“They are quite adorable and kind,” Mason said. “They’ll listen to you, snuggle up to you, sleep with you, stuff like that.”

“It was cool to see the animals at the pet shelter,” said Dylan.

Foods served at the event included:

  • plain chicken
  • sodium-free green beans
  • cooked sweet potatoes
  • cranberry sauce
  • Rollers
  • pumpkin desserts

Those interested in welcoming or adopting an animal can come to the shelter on November 24 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The shelter is waiving adoption fees this week on most of its adult dogs.
