Discounted Adoption of 9 Local Louisiana Animal Shelters Through ‘Empty The Shelters’ Initiative | KTVE

WEST MONROE, La (KTVE/KARD) – Ouachita Parish Animal Shelters are currently experiencing an overpopulation of homeless dogs at the shelter. Shelter event.

This event takes place May 2-15, 2022 A national initiative to make the adoption process easier in hopes that community members will go out and adopt a new pet. More than 275 shelters in 45 states and Canada will participate in this life-saving event to place deserving pets into loving homes.

The Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter will have a reduced adoption fee of $35 per animal adopted.

Shelters across the country are over capacity and highly adoptable pets are at risk as we face one of the biggest crises in years,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “BISSELL Pet Foundation is calling on people to visit their community shelters during ‘Empty the Shelters’ to save a life through adoption. Without you, there is no tomorrow for these deserving pets.

The director of OPAS says: “What is happening now, when we are full, we basically call out to the relief groups. We work with rescues all over the country, from strays to owner surrenders, who are coming. We also have moms and puppies here. We have lots of older dogs right now who are great dogs and ready for adoption. We’ve got a lot of things we’re up to getting fixed and getting everything ready for him or her for the Empty The Shelter event starting next week.

Monroe resident Morgan Yelton said: ‘When I saw the dog he was so sweet and when I saw the dog go into the crate I was like I was going to come back and get you so I got up at seven this morning today and I’m I’m going to adopt him, yes, I’m so excited.

The Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter has been trying to get more residents adopted as they have seen an increase in people dropping off dogs and cats since the start of 2022, from January 1 to April 15 the shelter has accommodated 1,048 dogs. The shelter is at capacity due to the recent addition of animals, it is said that if these animals do not find a hole they will be euthanized

“Definitely come here and enjoy interacting with dogs and see which one suits you best. Definitely ask questions and come and play with them and even if you are able to adopt. Just come and play with them so they can have human interaction, they are very complete, so come and adopt them. Say Morgan

If you would like more details about adopting your next pet, visit the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter at 417 Well Road, West Monroe. It is open for adoption from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

Director Stephanie Mullins says anyone looking to adopt a pet is free to stop and see the variety of animals available for adoption.

The adoption fee for dogs and cats is $80 cash and during the Empty The Shelter event it will also be reduced to $35 cash.
