Animal shelters see declining number of animal adoptions

FARGO, ND (KVRR) – An increase in abandoned animals has prompted local shelters to seek help.

“In the FM area right now we are seeing a huge increase in the number of animals that shelters and rescues are accommodating, unfortunately this leaves us very confined with the space we have,” Heather Clyde, director of operations at Homeward animal shelter. mentionned.

Heather Clyde, who helps operate the Homeward Animal Shelter, says their current number of animals in need of a forever home is 168 and they need help.

“We are really looking for adopters and foster families. We have even more animals that we welcome every day to ask for more help from other animals in need and we have to say no because we just don’t have the space or the foster homes to continue to welcome them, ”Clyde said.

Pet parents who are looking to help rescue a needy animal, but who may not be ready to fully engage in adoption, have the option of getting it up for adoption.

“We still need foster homes. Foster homes are a no-cost arrangement for you. We pay for everything, including veterinary care as well as all supplies, ”said Clyde

A family that just decided on a litter of kittens says the experience is worth it.

“Welcoming kittens is a lot of work but it is also very rewarding and for us, we have taken care of kittens before and we love it. Host family is a great option for people who may want the companionship and energy of being with pets, but can’t quite commit to looking after them on time. full. It’s a great way to take care of animals, ”said Tracy Frank Foster.

With your hands full with the growing number of animals at the shelter, Clyde says that while you can’t help adopting or adopting, any help is appreciated.

“We can also accept donations. Obviously, we have to provide veterinary care to 168 animals. We also have to feed these animals so that everything can help. We have wish lists on our website for food donations that we can use and financial donations help us pay the vet bills we have, ”Clyde said.
