Teacher at local elementary school combines passion for art and dogs to help rescue stray network animals – CBS Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – After being welcomed and adopted by Stray Network Animal Rescue, Tara McFadden wanted to continue helping, but as a busy elementary school teacher she had no time.

So, during the pandemic, she got creative.

“I couldn’t invest 100% in placement and kids, so I decided to start selling some of my artwork to see if I could still get donations for the Stray Network,” McFadden said.

McFadden called his new business Refurbishing For Rescues. She repairs furniture, creates art and sells products. 100% of the profits go to the Stray Network.

The nonprofit is on a mission to save and rehouse dogs in desperate need of rescue, from moms to major medical cases.

“It’s a great way to mix my love of art and my love of dogs and to be able to donate it for a good cause,” said McFadden.

McFadden can’t believe the answer.

“I thought I would only do one or two pieces, and that would be the end, and it kind of took a life of its own,” McFadden said.

So far, McFadden has raised over $ 3,000. And the Stray Network is grateful for their contributions.

“The funds she generates can go to spay and neuter, and our dog mums for their heartworm treatments, and it’s – it’s such an amazing journey that she’s taking with us.” , said Jennifer Clements-Rhoades of The Stray Network.

McFadden doesn’t know what the future holds, but she plans to continue to combine her two passions, animals and art, in her quest to save the lives of rescue dogs.

“It’s so wonderful that she can think outside the box and that she can help us in this special way,” said Clements-Rhoades.

“As long as I love making art, people love the work, and I can make money for the Stray Network, that’s fine,” McFadden said.
