Former congressman and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, father of Kentucky US Senator Rand Paul, appeared to have a medical emergency during a live broadcast on Friday.

A recording of the livestream showed Paul in front of a backdrop for his podcast, the Liberty Report, speaking about the economy before one side of his face began to droop and his words became unintelligible.

Later on Friday, Ron Paul posted a photo of himself smiling and giving the camera a thumbs up as he wore a hospital gown.

“I’m fine,” he said. “Thank you for your concern. “

Rand Paul’s chief strategist Doug Stafford shared the photo on Twitter and said “Thank goodness.”

It is not known exactly what happened to Paul. On Twitter, Rand Paul said “Thank goodness dad is fine” and thanked people for their prayers.

The video elicited an instant response from politicians on Twitter, who said their thoughts and prayers were with the Paul family. US Representative Thomas Massie, R-Vanceburg, tweeted “prayers,” as did US Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

“May the healing hand of God be on Dr Paul, and the peace and grace of God be on the whole family,” Cruz tweeted.

Paul ran for president as a libertarian in 1988 and a Republican in 2008 and 2012. His presidential candidacies of 2008 and 2012 helped to bring attention to libertarian philosophy and to launch the career of young Paul, who won his Senate seat in 2012 upon his retirement. by former US Senator Jim Bunning.
