NV Energy Foundation is providing $550,000 to support scholarships, workforce readiness and student emergency fund. funds will provide scholarships and assistance to hundreds of CSN students

The NV Energy Foundation announced a change in designation for a donation to the College of Southern Nevada Foundation that will provide hundreds of scholarships and assistance to meet the immediate needs of CSN high school and college students.

For decades, the company has established endowment funds with the CSN Foundation that have helped fund numerous scholarships. To maximize the immediate impact of these donations, NV Energy will transfer more than $550,000 in endowment funds to provide scholarships to hundreds of students over the next two years, which will increase the work readiness of these students and will accelerate Nevada’s economic recovery.

This funding will also support the CSN Student Emergency Fund, which helps meet the needs of CSN students for short-term emergency financial assistance for non-tuition relief, including books, child care, security, technology and transportation costs.

“Many of our students have had to make difficult decisions in the face of financial hardship during this pandemic,” said CSN President Dr. Federico Zaragoza. “The new NV Energy scholarships will allow them to stay in school, choose a workforce-ready career path, and graduate. NV Energy’s commitment to our students and our community is so important.

“Education and workforce development play a critical role in Nevada’s long-term economic recovery, and NV Energy wanted to do something for CSN that would have a meaningful and positive impact on students who were experiencing difficulties due to loss of revenue or other challenges brought on by COVID-19,” said Doug Cannon, president and CEO of NV Energy. “The NV Energy Foundation donation will be used today, when students need it most.”

“I am pleased to see NV Energy invest in our community colleges and help prepare Nevada’s next generation,” said Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak. “Professional training and retraining of the displaced workforce is critical to the economic future of our state. I would like to thank CSN and NV Energy for their collaboration in this effort.
