The owner of an animal shelter in Westchester has been arrested for allegedly stealing money intended for animals, the local SPCA said Thursday.

The Westchester SPCA has announced that its Humane Law Enforcement Unit (HLE), in a joint investigation with the Office of Economic Crimes of the Westchester District Attorney’s Office, has arrested and charged Lisa Marie Birdsall, owner of Recycled Paws Rescue in Mohegan Lake, big theft Tuesday.

From January 5, 2020 to December 31, 2020, Birdsall, 55, allegedly stole more than $ 17,000 from Recycled Paws Rescue, Inc., a non-profit 501 (c) (3) dog rescue organization, without permission or authority to do so.

According to the Westchester SPCA, Birdsall allegedly spent the stolen money for his own personal purposes.

Birdsall is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Heights court on August 3. Information from his lawyer was not immediately known.
