The Drunken Dog in Cy-Fair combines dog-friendly catering and animal philanthropy

The Drunken Dog was one of the first names MJ Ethridge thought of when setting up a new LLC for Cy-Fair’s brand new dog-friendly bar and kitchen.

After parting ways with a former business partner, Ethridge, former owner of Ranch Bar + Kitchen, decided it was time for change to take hold at the former Cypress restaurant. Ethridge decided the place deserved a new name, a new look, and an affinity for dogs.

The Drunken Dog opened in late 2021 at The Ranch’s original location, 13245 Jones Rd. The full-service bar and grill emphasizes dog-friendly patronage.

“We needed to get another liquor license, so I thought we could do something new with the business,” she said. “As soon as we were able to do what we wanted, the first thing that came to mind was dogs. We were able to switch insurance after I parted ways with (The Ranch), so we were able to do that.

The Drunken Dog takes dog friendliness one step further by hosting successful adoption events with local rescues like Cypress Lucky Mutt Rescue.

The idea of a bar promoting dog adoption came naturally to Ethridge, who herself is a “five-time family failure” with her own dogs. Plus, she said, Cy-Fair needed more hangouts and dog-friendly restaurants. Customers of The Drunken Dog also have the option of choosing their pet to represent the restaurant on Facebook during the month.

“We would like to partner with more local rescues to help dogs get adopted,” Ethridge said. “A lot of slots for these spaces in Petco and other stores are competitive. We’re willing to work with anyone.

In addition to adoption events and a dog-centric theme, Drunken Dog offers a full dining experience including appetizers like jalapeno poppers and fried mozzarella and full entrees like quesadillas and street tacos. . The Drunken Dog also has a fully stocked bar, Ethridge said.

“We’re a full-service bar and restaurant, so you can have all the drinks you want, and we have plenty of food,” Ethridge said.

The Drunken Dog also offers entertainment for all ages, including foosball, billiards, retro arcade machines, Skee-Ball, and arcade basketball games. Live musicians also play The Drunken Dog.

“Now we have something for everyone, whether it’s families or people going out for a bite to eat,” she said. “I just wanted to create something the region could be proud of and it’s great to see everyone enjoying it. It’s nice, it’s clean and there’s something for everyone.

With less than a year under The Drunken Dog’s belt, Ethridge said she hopes to see more dog lovers and future dog owners visit the new location.

“People have really embraced the concept of the dog,” she said.

The Drunken Dog will host a rescue fundraising event with Corridor Dog Rescue on January 30, starting at 2 p.m., as well as a Super Bowl event on February 13. For more information, visit drunkard.com.
