The animal board reaches its maximum capacity

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – The ‘Fun Fur Pets’ boarding and training center hit capacity over the weekend with more people traveling now than for sure.

Chief animal caretaker Eve Molzhon said this was another result of the 36% increase in pet ownership during the pandemic.

More and more people have bought pets and now that it is safe to travel, they must find places to take their furry friends while they are away.

“So now you take your life back, where is your pet?” Molzhon said. “This weekend we had to turn people down like a hotel. There are only a limited number of suites available, so many cat apartments available and so when people call and ask to bring up their pet with us and we say no, we’re sorry. re full, we have reached maximum capacity. “

Typically, the holidays are the busiest with around 100 boarding animals – this weekend there were 140.

“We take care of the animals,” Molzhon said. “We want to make sure they’re happy. We keep a poo diary. Who has diarrhea? It is a sign of stress. Who does not eat? It is a sign of stress. Let’s make sure everyone is drinking their water … So really making sure everyone gets the best possible care. “

New pet owners need to think ahead.

“Plan ahead,” she says. “We feel bad when we can’t accommodate your pet, but there are only a limited number of spaces in our daycare environment. Plan ahead. And always have a plan b.”

Lisa Ulber bought her puppy Lou during the pandemic and dropped him off for her first weekend away from home.

“So we made a commitment to have him about two weeks before it all ended, so we knew we were going to quarantine him, which was going to be tricky,” Ulberg said. “But it was good to know we wanted to bring him here.”

Molzhon said if people can no longer give their pets a suitable home, they should contact local rescue homes. It’s better than using Craig’s List because shelters help find the right fit.
