PARISH OF TERREBONNE (WGNO) – There is a happy reunion between the animals and their owners after they are lost after the storm. These meetings are held at the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter and WGNO’s Kenny Lopez has the story.
In the wake of Hurricane Ida, pets are reaching out to help!
âAnimals have been affected just like humans. We found a lot of animals that were moved and some were abandoned, âsaid Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter Director Valerie Robinson.
For weeks, the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter has been working hard to reunite pets with their families.
âWe recovered 300 animals from the storm. Our main goal is to bring our animals back to their homes where they belong, âshe said.
They even posted pictures of the missing animals on Facebook.
âWe are trying to disseminate this information so that people can see which animals have passed through our shelters,â she said.
Today at the animal shelter in the parish of Terrebonne, Suzette Solet was helping her friend.
âI get my friends six dogs and five cats. My friend had to evacuate and the shelter took in his pets. For her, it’s going to be awesome. She cried every day that her animals were separated from her, âSolet said.
âIn some cases, pets are all these people have left,â said Robinson.
A positive experience for these families and their four-legged friends.
They’ve partnered up with The American Humane Group which is helping deal with the overflow of animals after the storm.
The shelter also has an Amazon wish list of the supplies they need to help pets. If you want to help out or miss your pet and are trying to find out if your pet is at the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter, click HERE.
