When kids are feeling anxious, nervous, or upset in some way, a warm hug from a dog can make all the difference in the world by giving them a little comfort.
That’s part of the reason the Monmouth County District Attorney’s Office called in “Surf,” the watchdog who will work at the Child Advocacy Center.

The “hiring” of the 4-year-old yellow labrador retriever was announced Wednesday by the MCPO, who said Surf is arriving in the department with training cars under his collar as well as “a relentless affable demeanor, and a unwavering commitment to serving one’s role. “
Surf’s role will be to meet with abused youth from across Monmouth County twice a week at the Child Advocacy Center as the MCPO offers a new type of therapy to help reduce anxiety of a victim and, in some cases, to help them. open up to help investigators solve certain crimes.
“Our Child Advocacy Center is designed to provide a warm and welcoming environment for our most vulnerable crime victims as they recover, and Surf’s arrival here takes that to a whole new level,” the prosecutor said by Monmouth County Acting Lori Linskey in a statement. “We couldn’t be more delighted to have him here.”
Acting District Attorney Linskey explains that Surf’s arrival in the office follows two years of planning and discussing ideas with Melissa Boege, Director of the Monmouth & Ocean Counties Family Growth Program for Catholic Charities, who has also worked at the MC Child Advocacy Center and through her work over the years has focused on providing therapy to children, adolescents and even adults since 2014.
In 2019, the California-based nonprofit Canine Companions, put Surf with her permanently.

Over the past two years, Boege has taken Surf to meet clients at the Red Bank Family Growth Program site and visit public and private schools in Monmouth County to present “Safety Steps,†a series of workshops. prevention of abuse.
