St. Leonard man convicted of animal cruelty for hitting dog at animal shelter

Kenneth David Bonolis, 58, of Saint-Leonard

Calvert County State’s Attorney Robert Harvey announced that 58-year-old Kenneth David Bonolis of St. Leonard was convicted Jan. 25, 2022, of the felony animal cruelty charge.

Bonolis was sentenced to 14 days incarceration followed by a period of house arrest. The conviction follows a jury trial held before the Honorable Mark S. Chandlee of the Calvert County Circuit Court, in which the state presented evidence that Bonolis repeatedly kicked his dog outdoors. from the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter.

State’s Attorney Harvey wishes to commend Sergeant Kreps, Deputy Warden Dowd and the Calvert County Animal Cruelty Task for their efforts in the investigation of this case. He also wants to commend the employees of the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter for their efforts to secure the conviction.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher J. Monte.
