Six-year-old raises money for Kurth animal shelter in Lufkin

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – Acts of kindness can come from anyone, regardless of age or background. On Friday, the Kurth Animal Shelter received such an act from a young boy at a time when they needed it most.

“We’re pretty much overwhelmed with homeless animals, so donations at this time of year have a huge impact,” said Amy Ramsey.

The donation came from six-year-old Noah Smith with a little help from fellow church members.

Noah collected money every Sunday at Keltys United Methodist Church after learning about the difference he could make from his pastor, Cindy Doran.

“I was telling Noah how one dollar, if we put it with all of our other dollars, can really make a difference in a lifetime. So Noah and I decided to create an extra dollar fund, so we asked the church to just bring in any extra dollars at the end of the week, ”said Cindy Doran.

Once his jar was full, Noah had to decide where to go the money. Pastor Doran took Noah to dinner and gave him a list of places he could donate money

“And I put them all in front of him like that, and we talked about some of them as I put them on, and as soon as I mentioned the animals, he said number four! And so I said, listen up Noah, I’m not quite finished and you know we have other things here, we have ten in all – number four, said Cindy Doran.

Noah’s passion for animals was fully visible, and while it didn’t result in a new puppy, he and the church hope his actions will inspire others to help those in need.
