SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minnesota (FOX 9) – An award-winning show dog that was inside a van when it was stolen from a South St. Paul hotel over the weekend has been found unharmed, according to the dog’s owner.
Michelle Baker told FOX 9 that she found her 2.5-year-old boxer, Jasper, on Monday inside a van where the man who had robbed her dumped him on Saturday.
Jasper’s owner Michelle Baker was in town for the Land O’Lakes Kennel Club dog show at the St. Paul RiverCentre. She told FOX 9 that she let her van run in the parking lot of the Envision Hotel as she walked inside the hotel for a cup of coffee. Illinois woman offers $ 5,000 cash reward to find her award-winning boxer. Jasper was in the back of his van when it was robbed on Saturday morning outside a hotel in South St. Paul.
St. Paul Police and Baker shared surveillance footage of a man who may have information about the theft on Monday. Within 15 minutes of the photo’s publication, Baker said a childhood friend of the man called her and provided her with two addresses.
Baker said they went to one of the addresses and spoke to the man, who told them he drove the van to where the taxi was heading to take it and abandoned him. He said he didn’t know there was a dog in the back.
Jasper was in a kennel in the back of his owner’s van when she was robbed on Saturday morning.
Baker said they drove to where they found the van with Jasper still locked inside. He was cold and hungry, but otherwise OK, she wrote on Facebook.
Police are expected to release additional information about the theft at a later date.
