A wildlife rescue group helped free a deer after its antlers got stuck in a rope swing behind an unincorporated Barrington residence on Sunday.

Lake County Sheriff‘s Office spokesperson Lt. Christopher Covelli said MPs were called around 9:45 a.m. Sunday to the 21200 block of North Taylor Lane in Unincorporated Barrington.

The resident called after finding a deer caught in a rope swing and panicking, Covelli said.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and called the nonprofit Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation to help them.

“Getting close enough to this male to anesthetize him was the dangerous part of this rescue as he was struggling with his huge wooden rack stuck in a rope swing. He probably had at least a 30-foot diameter circle that he could move because of the length of the rope, ”the group said on social media.

It took three rounds of anesthesia for the deer to be groggy enough for a rescuer to approach it, the group said.

Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation said the velvet around the deer antlers was “pretty well stripped.”

The group said they treated the deer and reversed the anesthesia. “I cross my fingers that he succeeds.”

“We are very grateful for their [Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation] services, ”said Covelli.
