Petco Love raises $1 million to help Ukrainian pets and families

Petco Love, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of pets, recently announced $1 million in assistance to organizations helping pets and families of war-affected animals in Ukraine. . Funds will be distributed immediately to organizations helping shelters, rescues and families of pets fleeing the war-torn country and to support future recovery efforts and needs as they arise.

Ukraine’s needs are acute and will continue as the humanitarian crisis continues. Organizations receiving support from Petco Love — including Humane Society International and FOUR PAWS International — had worked with shelters and shelters across Ukraine and in neighboring European Union countries before the war. Since the military invasion nearly a month ago, these non-governmental organizations have worked to support the changing needs to maintain the health and well-being of companion animals.

“It is devastating to see families seeking refuge as they leave war-torn areas. The entire Petco family is heartbroken and touched by the love Ukrainians have for their pets, often carrying them as they flee their homes and countries for safety. So, as a company, we have come together to engage our teams and guests to help save pets and support Ukrainian pet owners affected by this war. It is with love that we commit $1 million to support immediate relief and long-term recovery,” said Petco Love President Susanne Kogut.

Animal shelters and border shelter support centers in neighboring countries also need veterinary supplies, products and care for pets entering EU countries; future funding will be needed longer term as organizations rebuild after the war.

During crises, humanitarian efforts are necessarily focused on the essential safety of those affected. But pets also suffer in times of war. Like the whole world, Petco Love seeks to ease some of the grief of the Ukrainian people. By helping their loving pets, Petco hopes to make a demonstrable difference in their entire lives.
