Pet Alliance continues mission after fire destroyed shelter last week – WFTV

ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – It’s been a tough week for the Pet Alliance.

Animal shelter workers have been working long days since last Wednesday night’s fire that killed more than a dozen animals.

Reconstruction and recovery efforts are underway and Pet Alliance said it could not have recovered so quickly without the community’s help.

Donations keep coming in and animals are finding their homes “more and more”.

The public veterinary clinic, trade office and shelter were written off as a complete loss after Wednesday night’s fire.

Firefighters managed to save 45 cats and 26 dogs from the burning building. Sadly, dozens of cats died in the blaze.

Now the recovery continues.

“I don’t even remember what day it is today,” said Kathy Rodgers, director of development for Pet Alliance.

She also said it was thanks to the people of central Florida that they were able to get back on their feet.

Fundraising efforts raised more than $ 500,000 in donations, as well as several food trucks and other pet supplies.

“It’s just Orlando who is Orlando. You know, everyone comes together and rallies around us. It’s just overwhelming, and the outpouring of support, it’s just overwhelming. It’s been so amazing.

Rodgers said so many people have lent a helping hand that they are halting physical donations.

Pet Alliance is eager to share with other nearby agencies as they seek to help the animals that have survived.

Pet Alliance hosted an adoption event at PetSmart on Saturday.

“All the dogs that were taken there have been adopted and we’ve also had people adopting our Stanford site, and I heard 50 animals were adopted yesterday, so people are definitely coming to help us out. some of those animals from the shelter, ”Rodgers said.

Even though the Pet Alliance has suspended donations of physical items, they are still accepting money to help with the rebuilding.
