Dothan’s outgoing commissioners expressed a heartfelt and sometimes tearful farewell at their last city commission meeting followed by a reception in their honor on Tuesday while the other commissioners and Mayor Mark Saliba complimented their service.
âIt has been a great commission to serve with,â said Saliba. âI am very, very grateful to everyone who attended.
I think we’ve done an amazing job of collaborating, compromising, and bringing together, so I appreciate that. “
District 2 Commissioner Janasky Fleming thanked God, his family and his constituents for the opportunity to serve and said his district was in good hands with Aristotle “Kat” Kirkland, who won the District 2 seat. in a second round last week and was a long time friend of Fleming.
Albert Kirkland, who has represented District 3 for the past 11 years, was overcome with emotion when he addressed his fellow Commissioners, who he said were like family to him.
âI am honored to have been a part of it,â Kirkland said.
Bradley Bedwell, a certified public accountant, will take over from Kirkland in October after winning his general election candidacy.
District 5 Commissioner Beth Kenward, known for her advocacy for the new Wiregrass pet rescue and adoption center and for becoming the city’s first female commissioner, hailed the community of Dothan as the best city she has ever lived in.
