Ohio takes inventory of ventilators; issues an emergency connection order; Extends state telecommuting order

Inventory must be reported online each Wednesday by 5:00 p.m., with the first report due yesterday, April 1.

(Columbus, Ohio) — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced Tuesday that Ohio is taking steps to put together a statewide inventory of ventilators and other machines and devices that provide respiratory support. .

Amy Acton, director of the Ohio Department of Health issued an order requiring weekly online reporting of these devices by any entity in the supply chain, from creation to end use. Examples are manufacturers, producers, wholesalers, carriers, distributors, retailers, doctors, clinics, hospitals and medical institutions.

“This will allow for the identification and redistribution of machines from health care providers who are no longer performing elective procedures,” Governor DeWine said. “It will also help our regional hospital associates by giving them information on the availability of these machines in their regions.”

Besides mechanical ventilators, other devices of note are CPAP and BiPAP machines commonly used to treat sleep apnea, as well as anesthesia machines and various treatment masks and tubing.

Exemptions include:

  • Fans in the possession of individuals for personal use; and
  • Ventilators in transit in Ohio but delivered to and from other states.

Inventory must be reported online at http://coronavirus.ohio.gov/VentInventory every Wednesday by 5:00 p.m. with the first report due Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Innovate Ohio helped create the online report form. Hospitals must also continue to report daily ventilator data through the Ohio Hospital Association reporting tool.

EPA ORDER:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency issued an order today to maintain public water service during the COVID-19 state of emergency.

This order prevents a water system from shutting down a resident’s water service due to nonpayment during a declared state of emergency.

The ordinance also requires water systems to reconnect water to anyone whose water has been turned off since Jan. 1 to help Ohio ensure as many people as possible have safe drinking water during emergency state. Those who are eligible for reconnection should call their water company to request reinstatement. Reconnection will be at no cost, but customers will be required to pay their water bill in the future.

WORK FROM HOME POLICY FOR STATE EMPLOYEES:

Governor DeWine announced that he is expanding the directive that Ohio state employees work remotely whenever possible.

The current telecommuting order has resulted in nearly 18,000 employees working remotely. Telecommuting for government employees will continue until at least Friday, May 1, 2020.

Governor DeWine also asked state agencies to find additional remote work opportunities where possible and to collaborate to share resources and information during this time.

Governor DeWine has ordered JobsOhio to begin collaborating on how to help the economy once the intensity of the COVID-19 pandemic begins to wane.

JobsOhio also announced that it has provided a $2 million growth fund loan to Appalachian Growth Capital (AGC) as part of a new strategic initiative to provide more economic development funds to Ohio’s most remote areas. hard hit by the economy.

AGC provides financing for small businesses in all 32 Appalachian counties in eastern and southern Ohio. It works with local and regional banks, as well as sub-lenders to support businesses in the region.

JobsOhio’s investment is a long-term, low-interest loan that will enhance AGC’s ability to provide low-interest financing to businesses in the Appalachian community. Loan support is intended to support small businesses in Southeast Ohio during this COVID-19 outbreak and create sustainable growth for the region beyond the crisis.
