Carbon County Commissioners received a financial boost last week for efforts to improve its county-run dog shelter.

David Kuchta of Nesquehoning donated $ 10,000 at Thursday’s meeting of commissioners for use at the Carbon County Animal Shelter.

“The only condition is that it is used for maintenance and repairs,” Kuchta said.

“The ventilation improvements are important to me. “

A report by the Lehigh County Humane Society earlier this year cited several recommendations for updates to the shelter, including physical improvements.

“We have done some coating work there and the next phase is to work on the ventilation,” said Commissioner Rocky Ahner.

“It’s very appreciated.”

The chairman of the commissioners, Wayne Nothstein, assured Kuchta that his donation would be used according to his wishes.

Earlier this month, commissioners approved five members for its new advisory commission on animal shelters.

“I think we see a lot of good things there,” Ahner said. “(Director of the shelter) Tom (Connors) called me and told me that a man was coming to donate.

“Sometimes we get $ 500 or $ 600, so I thought it was a mistake when he said $ 10,000. That’s really great news.
