TAVARES – To make this Christmas more magical for families who wish to adopt a pet, the Lake County Animal Shelter is organizing Operation Santa Paws.
Pets adopted between Monday and Wednesday can schedule delivery of their pet by one of Santa’s elves to their home on Christmas Eve at no additional cost.
âOur hope through these promotions is to find ‘forever homes’ for our homeless pets this holiday season,â said Whitney Boylston, director of the Lake County Animal Shelter. âWe would like all of our pets to have a home for the holidays. “

The shelter is currently full of dogs and cats available for adoption. In fact, the shelter currently has the most cats it has ever had at any given time. Much of the influx has come from two recent rescues: one in which 60 cats were found in a single residence and another with 30 cats.
âOur adoptions have been strong over the holidays, but we still have hundreds of animals available,â Boylston said. âOur Operation Santa Paws helps parents leave a lasting impression on their children with their pet hand-delivered by Santa’s elf. It gives it an element of magic.
There are also pawtificates available in case you can’t find the perfect pet the first time around, which can be used any time of the year. They cost $ 10 for two cats or $ 20 for a dog. Animal adoptions include vaccinations, microchip, personalized ID, sterilization or sterilization procedures, and a life of love.
According to Boylston, the spirit of generosity has circulated because many have sponsored pets, waiving their adoption fees.
âSome people who can’t have pets or just want to help animals become adopted will pay their adoption fees so that someone else can adopt them,â Boylston said. âSometimes people will even pay it up front and back, sponsor another pet for someone else. It’s a beautiful thing.
The shelter encourages families who wish to have a pet for Christmas to consider adoption.
âWe want all of our adorable pets to have a home for the holidays and beyond,â Boylston said.
