How to adopt a pet

Please join us for this special Local 4 event called “Emptying the Shelters” all day Thursday. There are so many furry faces out there that would brighten up anyone’s vacation, and right now they need your help!

That’s why Local 4 is on a mission to “empty the shelters” this season. We are working in partnership with Detroit Animal Care and Control to get the word out.

Detroit residents who adopt a dog or cat from Detroit Animal Care through Dec. 20 will not have to pay an adoption fee, thanks to a partnership with the BISSELL Pet Foundation‘s National Empty Shelters Program . (More on that here)

Starting at 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, Local 4’s Priya Mann walks into a kennel in the metro Detroit area to find out how you can help move tails and bodies to purr.

When you watch our 5 p.m. newspaper, you’ll see a special reunion that will warm your heart. And by sharing that with your friends and family, it just might be the best holiday gift you have this year.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty Shelters” program has reduced adoption costs for more than 67,700 pets in 45 states and Canada since its launch in 2016.
