FW Animal Shelter calls for adoptions, fosters as space gets limited – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

In response to the high volume of animals, the Fort Worth Animal Shelter says it is urging residents to help their four-legged occupants find homes.

The shelter currently cares for over 1,000 pets, which is the highest number they have seen in recent years.

“The number of animals entering the shelter exceeds the number of adoptions,” said Daine Covey of the City of Fort Worth. “We urgently need adoptions, especially for large dogs.”

In addition to adoption, the animal shelter suggests residents can help by opening up their homes and adopting larger dogs.

Pets like Apple and Blue Jack who have been at the shelter since April 2021 also need a home where they are the only pet in the house.

They are very affectionate and happy puppies. They are located on the North Campus of the Fort Worth Animal Sanctuary, 351 Hillshire, north of Fort Worth.

The city has also released Code Red pets – animals in urgent need of adoption or rescue, the online listing is for animals with special needs who are not placed in the shelter’s traditional adoption programs for Fort Worth animals.

It comes after the Dallas Animal Shelter announced it had no more room at the facility and described the increase as a “crisis”.
