FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ (3TV / CBS 5) – Zipped in a cooler and stuffed in a plastic bag. This is how a cat was found, abandoned, at an animal shelter in Fountain Hills this weekend. Fortunately, the cat is fine. And remarkably, the feline was found by a dog walking with its owner.
It happened early Saturday morning. A woman walking her dog on Fountains Avenue walked past Fearless Kitty Rescue. His Husky, Koda, directed him to this zippered cooler that was stuffed in a plastic bag. Koda continued to sniff it until its owner opened it and found a black cat, alive, inside. “Cat was rescued by a dog, you don’t hear that every day,” said Teryn Jones, spokesperson for Fearless Kitty Rescue. The association is now taking care of the cat they named Juliane. “We got it from Danish culture; that means fearless and of course we are Fearless Kitty Rescue. We think she is the true definition of fearlessness,” Jones said.
Jones said there was no way of knowing how long Juliane had been in a cooler that wasn’t cold in a plastic bag on a hot summer morning. Fortunately, the cat is doing very well, but vets here have discovered a lump on the feline’s tail that could lead to amputation. The MCSO is investigating. “You just can’t do that to animals. Well, you can’t do that to anyone, let’s be honest,” Jones said. “Animals don’t have a voice, they can’t tell you what’s going on.”
So now Jones wants to tell you what the cat can’t, as this is the third dropout the shelter has seen this year alone. “We have an admissions process; it’s on our website“Jones said.” And that’s just the best way to do it. “
