Critter Camps helps kids learn to care for animals | ABC Fox Great Falls

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Parents know that having a four-legged friend can be rewarding, but it’s also a lot of work, especially if there are young children at home.

But the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center offers exciting educational opportunities for your children.

“We want to be sure that they are well taken care of and the best way to do that is to teach each other how to take care of these animals and prevent them from getting into bad situations,” said Misha John. , marketing and development of the center.

They help parents teach their children good habits by holding one of their annual “Critter Camps” on October 21-22.

Whether it’s learning basic care, how the adoption center works, or finding a forever family, kids will learn how to care for a pet from an early age to try to break the cycle of placing animals in shelters.

“We want to get to the root of the problem. So we have so many homeless animals coming through our doors, we want to help prevent the reasons why they end up being displaced,” John said.

She says there are many situations where it can’t be helped, but thanks to the camp, kids will learn why animals end up in shelters and hopefully take those lessons to heart.

Shelters face many barriers, including overcrowding and limited resources.

But Maclean continues to strive to ensure that every pet has a safe and loving family forever.

“It’s really fun interacting with these animals and learning how to handle them in a hands-on way,” John said.

The deadline to register for the Fall Critter Camp is Monday, October 18.

But if you can’t register for fall camp, there will be another camp in December and again next summer.
