The White Oak Animal Safe Haven held its first Fido Food Truck Fest on September 25.

Five food trucks – Lil Sista Sweets, Bull River Taco, Good to Go, Sweet Buzz Bean and Bistro and Truckin Triangles – gathered at the White Oak Volunteer Fire Dept.

According to the director of the shelter Laura Massie, the festival was born out of a desire to change things, while supporting the shelter.

“This is the first year that we’ve been doing it… it’s all new,” Massie said. “We usually do the Fido ball, but we had to change things up because of COVID. “

North Huntingdon Township volunteer Lynne Jesko. has been on the fundraising committee for four years and helped organize the Fido ball.

“We needed a less formal event,” she said. “This fire station also needs support – we want to attract businesses and be a good partner for them.”

In addition to the food vendors, several adoptable dogs and cats from the shelter attended the festival. The White Oak Animal Safe Haven is currently caring for 90 cats, 38 of which live in the shelter.

Township of North Huntingdon. Resident Dawn Lewandowski cited compassion for animals in need as a reason for wanting to adopt an animal.

Lewandowski said, “I would love to adopt him (Artemis the cat). She needs a home, someone to love her.

Adoption requests were available for those who wanted to adopt an animal.

Massie hopes to make the Food Truck Festival an annual event.

“I want to help support the shelter and get the animals adopted, and pay for vet care,” Massie said. “I would love to have more events here in the future if we can.”
