Boston’s Animal Rescue League is caring for two emaciated dogs who were likely abandoned in a park in Avon last week.
The dogs were found at DW Field Park around 10 a.m. Friday near the Avon Reservoir. In a statement, the ARL said the dogs, a female and a male, were “extremely frightened” and did not have a collar or microchip for identification. The Avon Police Department responded to the scene to assist the shelter.
ARL brought the dogs back to the Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center, where they were examined by vets
âThe dogs, who are incredibly friendly, are said to be around a year old and emaciated to the point of starving. In addition, numerous abrasions were found on the two dogs on the face, muzzle, chest and head, âthe statement said.
The shelter has a feeding plan in place to help the animals gain weight safely and they will remain in ARL’s care until they are healthy enough to find a new home. Dogs are currently not available for adoption.
The ARL Law Enforcement Department and Avon Police are working together to investigate the incident as an animal cruelty or abandonment case. Authorities are asking the public for help to find out more.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact ARL Law Enforcement at (617) 426-9170 x110 or by email at [email protected], or to call the Police in Avon at (508) 583-6677.
