Adopting a Pet Costs Less This Week at Oakland County Animal Shelter – The Oakland Press

The Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center was closed for the Presidents Day holiday, but staff will celebrate the rest of the week with reduced prices for all adoptions.

Forty-three of the 46 U.S. presidents had White House-era pets. President Abraham Lincoln was so fond of cats that First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln told a reporter they were her husband’s hobby. A statue of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s beloved dog, Fala, is part of the FDR Memorial in Washington, DC

There are approximately 75 dogs and 45 cats available for adoption. Discounted prices begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 22 and end at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25. All adoptions are by appointment only at the shelter, 1200 North Telegraph, Building 42 East, in Pontiac on the county campus. To make an appointment, call the Pet Adoption Center at (248) 858-4647.

Until Friday, qualified residents will pay $25. Dog adopters will also pay the cost of a license. For a neutered or neutered animal, it’s $15 or $40 for 3 years; people 65 and older pay $14 for a one-year license and $37 for three. For unspayed dogs, prices are $25 for one year and $70 for three years. People 65 and over pay $23 and $64 respectively.
