Abused, abandoned dog dumped in Marshall County expected to make a full recovery

BOURBON, Ind. (WNDU) – A Marshall County dog ​​is taking action to recover after being abused and then left by the side of the road last week.

Marshall County Humane Society Executive Director Nancy Cox believes Mango, a puppy just a few months old, was used as a bait dog to train fighting dogs.

“He was found in a ditch in Plymouth. He’s been totally overlooked, ”Cox says.

And while authorities are still trying to figure out whoever had the heart to throw him into a ditch, Cox says Mango’s recovery is going in the right direction.

“It does wonders. He’s broken at home, they’ve got him where he doesn’t potty in his kennel. He gets all the socialization a puppy needs to be a wonderful pet when they’re ready to be adopted, ”Cox said.

However, Mango must first overcome an immune disorder and severe skin disease.

“He tested positive for scabies, of which he had a serious, serious case,” Cox said.

Going forward, Mango will spend his days playing sports at the Bourbon Veterinary Hospital wearing a Superman cape like he did on Wednesday, and nights in a nursing home.

“He will make a full recovery. They take care of him. It’s going to be a long road, ”Cox says.

But a road that will hopefully lead to adoption thanks to the long line of people already willing to give Mango the forever home he deserves.

“He will be available for adoption. We have already received more than ten adoptions. We are not in a great hurry to go through them. Sure we’ll process them to get them approved or not, but it’ll be Christmas before he’s actually ready to walk into a house, a few months, ”Cox said.

Cox says she hopes sharing Mango’s story will inspire others to tackle animal abuse.

“The most important thing, if you see a neglected animal, say something. Call us, email us, we will definitely check it out. And if there’s anything we can do to help an animal, we’ll go. “
